Founder's Day
Season: 5
First Shown: 11 March 1977
Young Mr. Grace is 80 (maybe I am confused, but doesn't he turn 80 in another episode as well?) and the staff wants to put together a celebration: The theme: A "This is Your Life" takeoff showing how the various members of the staff have affected Mr. Grace's life, appropriately titled "This is Your Department." Mr. Lucas plays the host of this gala, and the secrets dredged up...Mr. Grainger as an ambulance driver during the war; a photograph of a very "young" Mrs. Slocombe; Miss Brahms recalls the time she was stuck in the elevator with Mr. Grace and tried everything to get it to move; Captain Peacock remembers Mr. Grace's "kindness" during a winter storm as he was waiting for a bus. The biggest surprise was Mr. Humphries' mother making a videotaped appearance (she couldn't come that day--it was her Bingo day), telling everyone how she went to see Mr. Grace to try to get Mr. Humphries the job.
