Transportation fare increases force the staff to come up with creative ways to save money and arrive on time. Mr. Humphries tries to talk to Mr. Grace about the problem but ends up getting sacked. Mr. Grace later retracts his decision and offers, as a solution to the transport problem, the use of his three top-floor apartments to the staff. But the staff finds that getting on well at work and living together are two different worlds, especially when they have to deal with babies, the smells of cod's heads and curry, and the very jealous wives of Captain Peacock and Mr. Rumbold.
