Coffee Morning
Season: 3
First Shown: 6 March 1975
The staff's coffee breaks have become a bone of contention with management. In an effort to curb lateness, Mr. Rumbold decrees, (in his time-saving abbreviation memo) that, besides Captain Peacock "stroking" Mr. Rumbold, that all break times are to be logged in a book! The staff rebels and decides that they won't sign the book. Poor Mr. Grainger becomes the first victim out of the elevator, and despite his protests that EVERYONE else wasn't going to sign the book either, he is fined. Naturally, the rest of the staff won't help out with paying the fine. Meanwhile, Mr. Mash decides to bring it to the attention of the union shop steward (himself) and tells management that breaks should not be logged--they shouldn't even begin until the coffee is in their hand. Mr. Rumbold disagrees with that and Mr. Mash orders a "go-slow" in protest. Poor Mr. Rumbold is still being labeled the instigator of this whole mess. Mr. Grace decides to solve the problem by having their coffee brought round to the floors, causing the staff to realize how much they will miss their breaks in the canteen.
