The Think Tank
Season: 2
First Shown: 28 March 1974
A £600 decline in sales over last week doesn't look good for our heroes. Mr. Mash washing the female mannequins in shifts doesn't look good either. Mr. Rumbold decides to convene a "think tank", where all of them will think of new ideas that will go into Mr. Rumbold's tank. Mr. Grainger and Mr. Humphries muse about how people aren't spending as much as they used to, so the first idea that comes out is to have a sale. It's shot down, along with several others, until Captain Peacock comes up with a novel idea: to stage a fashion show in the department. With the staff modeling some of Grace Brother's finest apparel (including, among other things, a cherry print nightie and a period costume whose skirt is so slim that Mrs. Slocombe has to hop up and down stairs), they proceed to put on their show. But is the fashion show a hit with Mr. Grace, or have the cherries failed to help them strike the jackpot?
