The Club
Season: 6
First Shown: 22 November 1978
Mr. Humphries has had a long day--first having to lie down after learning the man of his dreams is a dog (really), then fainting after witnessing a Flexi-Bra and matching underpants display. But the hot news of the day: a social club for the staff at Grace Brothers. Mr. Grace gives the staff room #5 in the basement for them to use as their club room. They bicker as no one is exactly sure what they are looking for in a club, then decide to decorate it themselves to earn the £300 that Mr. Grace was going to pay the decorators. They begin to regret it when they see that the club room looks more like a dungeon. Mrs. Slocombe immediately takes charge of things, and we learn that no one is suited for the home decorating business. They can't get a piece of wallpaper up to save their lives. We are also treated to a cute trick done by Mr. Harman and a wooden plank. As the day progresses, constant bickering erupts into a full-scale paper paste war, with Mr. Humphries, in his orange (I saw it as yellowish, sorry for the error) smock, is attacked by everyone as he is bringing in tea. And Mr. Grace expects them to get along in a social club???
