Season 1 - Episode 3
First Shown: 24 January 1992

Poor Mrs. Slocombe! First, she's dragged through the town on a runaway trap. To add insult to injury, she gets charged with the theft of the trap!

Today is her trial, and she's not happy about it, especially after she learns she's made the front page of the local newspaper complete with unflattering photograph (think Costa Plonka passport photos). It doesn't make her feel any better to learn that the local magistrate hearing the case is the same person in charge of the hunt that Mrs. Slocombe's pussy ruined.

Mr. Humphries and Mavis start off the morning with a little chat about their sleeping arrangements: he wants it kept to himself, and she steals the blankets and wants him to steal them back. Captain Peacock takes Miss Lovelock up on her offer of a motorcycle ride into town for the trial. He has a great time...until she actually starts the motor up--the he's content to give up his ride to Mr. Rumbold. The rest of the staff opts to take their chances on Mr. Moulterd's pig wagon (complete with piglets) to get to the trial.

Mr. Thorpe (of Thorpe, Thorpe and Thorpe) is coordinating her defense, and his defense strategy is for her to plead guilty. She refuses and the trial begins. Immediately Mr. Rumbold is tossed out of court thanks to his leather outfit, and Mr. Thorpe is already on the magistrate's bad side just for being a London lawyer. Meanwhile Mr. Moulterd plans to bribe the magistrate with a pheasant...well, with everything else going on in this trial, it couldn't really make it worse, could it?

Captain Peacock is the star witness for the defense, and all he's doing is putting the magistrates to sleep. Mr. Humphries is a character witness...unfortunately, he's staking his reputation on it. Miss Brahms is next and tries a little flirting which lands on the wrong target. Horror of horrors: Mr. Moulterd is called up (complete with pheasant in hand) and reveals a little TOO much information about Mrs. Slocombe. But he also does say something that might actually help the case!

After all of this, will Mrs. Slocombe be found innocent or is she a condemned woman?

Quote:
(Mr. Rumbold and Miss Lovelock arrive at court)

Mr. Rumbold: Sorry we're late, I was getting into my leathers.
Miss Brahms: Blimey, he's wearing a whole cow!
